The Japanese Mutual Aid Society of Chicago currently has over 300 plots in Montrose Cemetery, 5400 N Pulaski Road. The plots are located in the Oakhill Annex and the Cherry Triangle Annex. The Oakhill Annex and the Cherry Triangle Annex are located south of Bryn Mawr Avenue and just north and west of the Japanese Mutual Aid Society Mausoleum. Each plot measures 3′ x 8′ and can hold a standard casket. For urn burials, three openings of a plot can be made. The purchase price of plots in the Oakhill Annex is $1,000, and the purchase price of plots in the Cherry Triangle Annex is $1,500.
All grave markers are the same color and size, 24” X 12” and 8” high in the back. The number of names inscribed on the markers is limited to three, but exceptions are sometimes made. The cost of inscriptions is included in the total cost of the marker, except for any inscription made after installation. Flowers may be planted in front of the marker 12” out and the width of the marker but not in back of the marker. Planting in the back of a marker infringes on another plot owner’s property. Mutual Aid does not permit evergreens and does not accept memorial trees. During the winter months wreaths are allowed, but no winter blankets. Artificial flowers can be used. It is recommended that real flowers not be placed on the marker because the acid from the flowers will run down the marker and discolor the granite. All flowers and vases are taken up on March 1 and October 1 of each year for general clean up. Grave markers, including headstone and foundation, can currently be purchased for $1,751.88 by contacting Montrose Cemetery at 773-478-5400.
Burial arrangements can be made by contacting Montrose Cemetery at 773-478-5400. Burial of caskets should be coordinated between the mortuary and Montrose Cemetery.
For urn burials, Montrose Cemetery should be apprised of the dimensions of the urns so that the vaults may be sized properly. As of April 1, 2019, the following prices apply. Prices are subject to change, and additional fees may apply.
$1,300 – Weekdays
